Investment Thesis Map
We mined BASF's acquisitions, investments, and partnerships to discern the company's strategic priorities.
BASF is one of the largest chemical companies in the world, with around $67B in revenue in 2020 across its 6 business segments.
With more government regulations pushing companies to curb emissions and reduce waste, the chemical giant is investing, partnering, and acquiring across a wide range of industries — from electric vehicles (EVs) to farm monitoring drones to rapid prototyping 3D printers — to build more connected and sustainable end-products.
For example, BASF participated in EAVISION’s 2021 Series C funding round, helping to increase production of the startup’s autonomous plant monitoring and pesticide-spraying drones. BASF has also invested in and collaborated with Lanzatech to upcycle CO2 emissions into new goods.
Using CB Insights data, we uncovered the 5 most important strategic priorities highlighted by BASF’s recent acquisitions, investments, and partnerships in the last 5 years. We then categorized companies by their business relationships with BASF across these priorities:
- Additive Manufacturing
- Agtech (Agriculture Technology)
- Battery Tech
